So often we only consider our mind, our thoughts and our intentions when we explore personal development. However if our bodies are stressed, in pain and full of chemicals we are missing one of the most important understandings regarding the mind body connection. ‘Our body is our temple’ is a common saying. Hmm, not sure about the temple thing, but I do know that If we don’t look after our body then illnesses and aches and pains make our life a much more difficult journey. Having been through a difficult time last year health wise, it was a weekly visit to a clinic for a far infrared Sauna that was an integral part of my recovery. It assisted me to detox after a series of rather potent medications and a prolonged period of reduced mobility as well as offering a guaranteed quiet time out each week which was just for me. It was of such benefit that I decided to get one for the Awareness Clinic. Staff are now using it for de-stressing and to head off colds. Being mindful of our bodies is just as important as being aware of our thoughts. I hope you get a chance to experience this for yourself soon.
Warm regards Jody Haywood. Director, Awareness Institute
Far Infrared Saunas combine the highest quality Carbon Fiber Infrared panels and Pure Wave Ceramic elements to selectively emit the most healthy wavelengths from the sun’s energy spectrum.
Unlike conventional ‘hot rock’ saunas, Far Infrared Saunas provide their benefits at lower, more comfortable temperatures; meaning longer, healthier, more enjoyable sauna sessions. There is no steam or breathing in hot air.
Our sauna has a few extras that allow us to customise your sauna experience using aromatherapy, sound or colour light therapy (chromotherapy).
The infrared sauna includes a therapeutic Oxygen Ioniser. This provides invigorating oxygen therapy with easily absorbed ions to increase oxygen maximisation.
These positively charged ions have the additional benefit of tracking down and binding with pollutants such as bacteria, mold and pollen, removing them from the air we breathe.
Call us on 02 9436 1644 to book your sauna experience now and come on in out of the cold.
Regular price – $30 for 35 min session (if bringing own towels), or $150 for 6 sessions (pay for 5, the 6th session is free. Great value!).
PLEASE NOTE: The above prices are based on bringing your own towels (2 large and 1 small). If you wish to use our towels, please add $5 per session.
The most natural way for the body to rid itself of toxins is through the sweating process. Humans have been detoxifying using this process for tens of thousands of years. Infrared sauna therapy aids this release of toxins by resonating the bonds that hold toxins locked in the subcutaneous fat layer under the skin.
Researchers analysed the sweat from both traditional and infrared saunas. Sweat from traditional sauna users was about 97% water and 3% toxins. Infrared saunas produced sweat that was only 80 — 85% water. The remaining 15-20% was made up of heavy metals, sulfuric acid, sodium, ammonia, uric acid and fat-soluble toxins.1
One of the key benefits of detoxification through the natural sweating process, is that toxins are removed directly through the skin, bypassing the kidneys and liver. Detoxification systems that are based on treatments taken orally, rely on the toxins being taken out of suspension, into the blood stream and then filtered out through the organs. This effectively reintroduces toxins into the circulatory system before they can be removed.
lower blood pressure naturally
In a 2005 clinical study by the University of Missouri Kansas City, infrared saunas were shown to lower blood pressure through a program of 30-minute infrared sauna sessions just three times per week.
This study concluded that infrared sauna therapy dilated blood vessels and reduced the thickness of their inner lining. This increased circulation and promoted healthy blood pressure.2
weight loss and management
A 10-year study published by The New England Journal of Medicine discovered that the circumference of your waist alone is a critical factor for assessing the risk of premature death.
The results of a study on the health benefits of far infrared saunas concluded that “infrared sauna use is beneficial for lowering blood pressure, weight and waist circumference.”3
You can burn up to 600 calories in one session!
Our body uses energy to produce sweat. We burn 0.586 of a calorie to produce 1 gram or milliliter of sweat. A moderately conditioned person can easily sweat off up to 1000gms or more in a sauna session.
1000ml x 0.586 cal = 586 calories burned!
While this weight loss can be regained by re hydration with water, the calories burnt will not be regained. This is a valuable addition to exercise and for those who can not exercise.
mood and stress
A study published in Psychosomatic Medicine looked at a group of 28 mildly depressed patients.
Half of the patients were treated with an infrared sauna once a day for 4 weeks and the other half just had bed rest for 4 weeks. The sauna group showed a significant improvement compared to the control group.4
Because Far Infrared Sauna therapy relaxes muscles it also aids in reducing headaches and other stressed related issues. Sleep deprivation or interruption is a major contributor to many psychological illnesses. Relaxing before bed in a quality sauna has been reported to significantly improve the quality of sleep.
do’s and don’ts
In all situations, hydration is a requirement for sauna use. Drinking min 1 cup of water is recommended both before and after sauna use. Filtered, magnetised water will be provided.
Do wear as little as possible. Naked is fine (or skyclad for all the wiccans), as are bathers or just your undies. The room is private so you wont be flashing anyone!
You will sweat A LOT! So do wear/bring clothes that you don’t mind changing into at the end of your session after you towel down. We do not unfortunately have shower facilities on the premises.
Do not apply body lotion or oils to your body prior to a sauna session.
In the rare event that you experience pain and/or discomfort, immediately discontinue sauna use.
We only found a few commonly advised contra indications such as implants (pace maker, breast augmentation etc), pregnancy and certain cardio conditions. However we have listed all that we found here for your consideration. If you have any questions please refer to your health care practitioner before booking your session. The decision as to whether far infrared sauna sessions are for you is up to you and if deemed necessary your primary health care provider. We are not able to provide medical advice.
