what is mindfulness?
1.the quality or state of being conscious or aware of something. “their mindfulness of the wider cinematic tradition”
2.a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.
This word is being bandied around quite a bit lately yet it is such a powerful state of being of being. There are books and courses on mindfulness meditation, mindful eating and more. To be mindful is to be fully present, in the moment and aware of what you are doing, thinking and feeling. Our minds can be such busy places that we are often creating to do lists, replaying an annoying conversation we had with someone last night, worrying about something that may happen tomorrow and planning our next holiday all at the same time. Meanwhile back in the present moment where our physical body is we could actually be driving a car or watching out for a child. Kinda dangerous huh, and the opposite of relaxing. Living every day like this can be exhausting and stressful which is why there is so much interest in living a more mindful way.
