what is astrology?
The study of our relationship to the cosmos is as old as human culture itself. Throughout human history, leaders, astrology has been used as an important tool to understand life patterns and cycles.

Astrology is both an art and a science. A student of astrology learns both technical detail and to develop their intuitive awareness. Along the way, the student will encounter some of life’s biggest mysteries, including “Who am I?” “Why am I here?” and “What is the best way for me to work toward realizing my full potential?”
All facets of our experience here on Earth are described vividly through the language of the stars.

Our Contemporary Astrology program combines traditional astrological technique with modern psychological astrology to offer a comprehensive overview of this fascinating subject. We take the student from beginner to practitioner level, and offer a unique program designed to help you achieve professional accreditation in this field.

Our experienced lecturers are drawn from a range of specialist fields, and all our lecturers work sydney, healing, reiki, shamanicprofessionally with clients on a day-to-day level. We offer extensive resources, excellent student support and a broad range of subject material unavailable anywhere else. Diploma students also have the opportunity to participate in our unique Student Clinic, which prepares you for client work, and reinstates the traditional practice of learning astrology through an apprenticeship.
Through our program, you will gain the ability to interpret the symbolic language of the sky. Each module incorporates the philosophical, mythical and spiritual context within which astrology has evolved. Classes combine comprehensive lectures and reading material with experiential workshops designed to help you gain the broadest understanding of this vast discipline.

You can start Astrology with Awareness Institute at the very beginning with Astrology 1. From there you can decide if you wish to proceed into the Certificate/Diploma program.
Or you can contact us to gain recognition of any prior study you have undertaken, and slot into our program at an appropriate level. We welcome students who have completed beginner courses elsewhere, but require those students to demonstrate a level of proficiency before advanced standing will be recognized.
Our program is challenging, stimulating and will lead you to a much greater level of personal realisation. New students should be prepared to spend time reading and reflecting on the material provided, and be ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery.

If you have a general interest in Astrology you can enrol in our Introductory Astrology Workshop, Astrology 1 to get an overview of what Astrology is and how it can inform your life.

For the more serious student, we have courses ranging from a 1 year Certificate to an 18 month Diploma program, as well as on-going professional development workshops.

Our comprehensive Astrology programs are taught to comply with the syllabus of the nationally recognized Federation of Australian Astrologers (FAA) exam system. Our curriculum is designed to prepare you to sit for the FAA exams, which upon completion, will provide you with a qualification that is held in high esteem around the world.

astrology 1 – locating the sky: the astrological planets  (also available as an online course start anytime)
Astrology is a sacred science over 6000 years old. Kings, queens and religious leaders throughout the ages have relied heavily on their astrologers to guide them when making important decisions. The study of the planets as they move through the sky is as old as human history itself. Understanding what the planets and their cycles mean; decoding the inner workings of the Zodiac and grasping the concepts of the 12 houses gives you access to divine knowledge. Who are you? Why are you here? What works well for you and what doesn’t in this lifetime?

We all know our Sun sign, and many of us have glanced at our horoscope in a magazine or online. However, the Sun and its position at the time of our birth is only one of the astrological influences upon who we are and our life purpose. In astrology 1 we explore the planets position in our solar system and how these can influence our unique personality patterns and karmic challenges. Explore the different archetypal symbols that each planet describes and how this can greatly influence the way in which you face the world. Learn about Sun signs, Moon signs and how they interact, as well as the importance of astrology through history. Class discussion will include student chart examples as well as examples of famous individuals. No prior knowledge is needed and students can take a fascinating journey into discovering what motivates them and why.

astrology 2 – the symbolic sky: the Signs of the zodiac and houses of the chart (also available as an online course start anytime)
Our second course introduces you to the stage (the houses) and backdrop (the signs) of the birth chart, against which our planetary characters appear. The chart can be likened to a circular theater, with the planets interacting upon it to evoke the drama of our own individual lives. We will look at the nature our solar system, and how our relationship to the cosmos can be mapped back down to us here on earth through the horoscope. We will learn about the houses of the chart, and how they describe all aspects of everyday life. We will be introduced to the basic building blocks of astrology, including polarity, mode and element. Then we will explore the Zodiac signs and the Ascendant to discover which areas of life they influence, and so come to an awareness of why we act the way that we do in certain situations.

astrology 3 – the interactive sky: understanding planetary aspect (also available as an online course start anytime)
The final major piece of information is put in place with the theory of aspects. We will learn how planetary characters interact through aspects, and so create the unique dialogue of the individual chart. Essential skills in chart interpretation are developed through chart shapes and aspect patterns. You will learn how the planets communicate with each other through dignity and aspects, enabling you to understand how the birth chart describes unique personality patterns and karmic challenges. We will explore how planetary relationships describe psycho-emotional themes. Time is allocated in class to support students develop comprehensive chart synthesis skills.

medical astrology 1 – the body as revealed in the sky (only available as an online course start anytime)
This course will introduce the basic philosophies and body rulerships according to modern medical astrology. Discover how to interpret a chart for its medical strengths and weaknesses. You will learn how to balance the situation using simple herbal and nutritional applications.This lecture will open up a part of medical astrology that has long been forgotten and once went hand in hand with all medicine.

astrology 4 – the dynamic sky: an introduction to predictive astrology (also available as an online course start anytime)
Astrology 4 introduces the dynamic nature of astrology, and its’ predictive cycles.  The theories of transits and progressions are explained, and the skills already developed in chart synthesis are developed and refined. We’ll look both into the past and into the future to help understand how each planet affects the individual journey. We will also define the 8 lunar phases, summarizing their importance in describing the pulse of the birth chart. This leads us to explore the progressed Lunation Cycle, a fundamental component of predictive astrology. By the end of this term you will be ready to experiment with predictive cycles in your own chart, and understand how chart themes develop and grow over time.

whole chart synthesis – working with astrology
The art of astrology lies in the ability to synthesize potentially disparate pieces of information. A good astrologer learns to combine intuition with empirical data to produce satisfactory results. In this workshop, we will explore how planets, signs, houses and aspects come together in the whole chart. We will explore how dominant chart patterns allow us to create a psychological portrait that powerfully describes the psycho-emotional themes running through an individual’s life. This is a practical workshop, with an emphasis on real-life examples. You will practice applying the tools and techniques needed to interpret the chart as a whole. This workshop prepares the student to undertake the FAA chart interpretation exam.

diploma of contemporary astrology (certificate plus year 2)

We will introduce the astrology of relationships, and look at how synastry and composite charts can describe the physical, sexual and professional connection between individuals using planetary symbols. We will also introduce the use of asteroids, and focus on how their application works, especially from a predictive point of view.

In this subject we also go back to basics to get a thorough grounding in chart calculation. Although contemporary astrologers employ computers for accurate calculation, a working knowledge of chart symbolism based on the reality of the experiential sky is essential for good astrological practice. You will learn to construct a chart using the ephemeris and Book of Tables, as well as construct a progressed chart by hand.

astrology 6
This subject covers advanced and traditional predictions and includes topics such as Solar and Lunar Returns, Eclipses and Solar Arc Directions. We will also explore Firdaria, Profections and Time Lords. We will look at important chart points, including the Part of Fortune, Vertex and Midpoints, and how these can be included to expand the repertoire available to the practising astrologer.

Our focus is on practical, real-life interpretations, so that students learn how to prioritise different predictive techniques. This course will hone forecasting and interpreting skills already gained to a professional standard, in readiness for the FAA Dynamic exam. Students will apply these techniques to their own charts, or the charts of people that they know.

Learning how to work with clients and their presenting issues is part of effective healing practice. In this subject you will learn about the basic theory and frameworks of soul centred counseling and practice the fundamental mind-body skills and methods in a supportive environment. You will learn how to be with, hold and support the integration of a client’s process to enable them to connect with a different level of their experience.

chart practice workshops
Our ongoing practice workshops give students the chance to practice skills within a supervised environment. Emphasis will be given to real-life examples, and working with clients in a simulated setting. These workshops form the foundation for Student Clinic, to be completed at the end of the Diploma year. In this way, we continue the tradition of transmitting astrological knowledge through an apprenticeship program, building student confidence and proficiency along the way.

horary & traditional techniques
Using fundamental traditional tools like reception and dignity, students learn about horary and electional astrology. Horary is used to answer specific questions, whilst elections are used to decide on a specific time to act.
Horary involves casting a chart for the moment to gain insight into situations or events. Electional astrology involves creating the best chart possible for an upcoming event or experience (like a wedding or new business).

Students discover how astrology can be used as an oracle and will have the opportunity to apply astrological symbolism to real-life questions, getting some immediate answers! Horary astrology is quick, clear and simple and was the historical entry point for the beginner student. By the end of this workshop, students will have the opportunity to demonstrate basic skills in using the horoscope to answer specific questions and explore alternatives for creating birth charts for specific events.

symbol, myth and archetype
The use of imagination is an essential component of many intuitive and therapeutic practices. Understanding how myths, symbols and archetypes can describe dimensions of shared experience is invaluable for anyone with an interest in the human psyche. Here, we will explore some of the major recent developments in the study of myth, symbol and archetype, and look at how these inform contemporary therapeutic practice. We will explore key insights opened by pioneers such as Jung, Campbell and Greene, as well as the use of imagery and symbol in the therapeutic and psycho-spiritual transaction. Psychologist James Hillman has suggested that the basis of mind is mytho-poetic. We will explore this idea from an experiential perspective to understand how the use of symbol and imagery might amplify our work as competent practitioners.

Building a successful practice
We will finish our program with a practical and detailed workshop outlining professional practice issues for those students wishing to pursue professional astrology. Topics covered include- establishing and maintaining a practice, client referral, income streams, small business management, and public liability. This module brings together the Diploma program and prepares the student to commence work as a professional astrologer.
